Experiment title:
The Embodiment of Adjectives in a Lexical Decision Task.
Purpose of the experiment:
I am Keith, a researcher at Maynooth University`s Department of Psychology, and I am conducting an experiment as part of a PhD project. The purpose of the experiment is to test the role of the motor system in language processing.
What does the experiment involve?
The experiment will present a series of onscreen trials. Each trial will present two strings of letters in the centre of the screen, one at a time, and the second letter string will always appear in
blue/lilac
font. Your task is to read the letter strings carefully, and respond as quickly as possible each time the
blue/lilac
letter string is a
real word
. Respond by pressing the spacebar on the keyboard of your laptop or PC with your
right hand only
. Please refrain from responding when the blue/lilac letter string is NOT a real word.
Note, the experiment can only be completed using a PC or laptop keyboard and needs to be undertaken in a quiet room.
English must also be your first language
. The experiment will take approximately 15 minutes to complete, and there will be an opportunity for a break at various stages throughout.
Who has approved the experiment?
The experiment has been reviewed and has received ethical approval from Maynooth University Research Ethics Committee. You may have a copy of this approval if you request it.
